This will be an easy task if I teach in a middle school, where there are usually teams.  This way, I can integrate other topics that students are learning into my classroom.  Even if this is just a small example comparing something to another content area, it is important that students see connections between subjects.  Another thing I can do to help build the new school is to have students collaborate on how they solve different problems and bring all of these strategies into one output, such as a wiki or a LiveBinder.  Often in math there are multiple ways to solve a problem (which many times the textbook doesn't mention) and it is important for students to understand this and collaborate with their classmates to figure out these different strategies.","dateCreated":"1288663727","smartDate":"Nov 1, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"cmeaney26","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/cmeaney26","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"31223599","body":"I also think that I will have to be in constant contact with the other teachers my students have.  As a Social Studies teacher, it would be so easy to collaborate class work and lessons with the English department.  For Social Studies, literature is very important but there isn't always time to read entire books in class and it may be too much work if the students have to read for an English class too.  So if a book assigned for English works for a Social Studies class, it would be perfect.  Secondly, as a teacher, I will make it my responsibility to learn all the new tools that I can and become adept and sufficient in them.  I will attend all possible seminars and lessons on new technology and also urge my fellow teachers to do the same.
